Powers of Chief Minister & Governors in State Arena - Part 16

Powers of Chief Minister and Governor in a state can be compared to the power of the President and the Prime Minister at the centre. President is the Constitutional head of the country whereas the Governor is the Constitutional Head of the State. Prime Minister with his Council of Ministers is the real governing authority of the country whereas the Chief Minister with his Council of Ministers is the real governing authority of the State.

The Governor of a State is bound by the advice of the Chief Minister on functions of daily administrations however Governor has with him some discretionary powers which he exercises through the centre's direction. The central nodal governing authority of the Governor of the State is the Home Ministry of the Government of India and the Governor of a State works under the supervision and control the Home Minister. There is Constitutional status to the designation of Chief Minister in the Constitution of India but there is a Constitutional status for the designation of the Governor of a State.
